Le Querce means the oak trees, and golfers need to be made of strong stuff to take on and conquer this splendid course which lies in rolling wooded country 30 miles north of Rome. Despite being the furthest from the city of our Roman courses, it is well worth a visit for a complete test of golf and an idyllic rural escape in deepest Lazio. The first hole - a dog leg par 5 with water on one side and OB woodland on the other - gives a taste of the challenge in store: only firm straight hitting will do, on a course that asks all the awkward questions - big carries, massive bunkers, well defended greens – in a perfectly natural setting. Le Querce is always rated one of Italy’s top courses, but the atmosphere is welcoming and low-key - that of a dedicated sporting facility, rather than an exclusive social club.
