Il Picciolo is a great, friendly ‘little’ course (at nearly 6000 yards not actually all that little) in a wonderful setting, just outside the town of Linguaglossa, 650m above sea level. The near by active volcano of Mount Etna dominates almost every hole of what is a challenging, narrow and hilly course, featuring a variety of hazards including hazelnut plantations, olive terraces, solidified lava flows, a lake, and the constant distraction of the scenery. The clubhouse currently has a number of large bedrooms available, which are inexpensive but perfectly comfortable, however an upmarket Palmerston resort is close to completion at the time of writing. The main tourist hub of Taormina is just 25km or a half hour drive away and Catania airport is a mere 45km. The surrounding mountainous territories of Monti Nebrodi and Mt Etna national parks provide a stunning backdrop and are well worth exploring in addition to the many picturesque coastal villages.
