Piemonte, found in the foothills of the Alps serves up two gems of courses. I Roveri, a Robert Trent Jones 18 hole course was a former hunting estate and has very carefully positioned bunkers and water protecting many of the greens. The putting surfaces are nicely contoured and serve up all kinds of problems. This is one of Italy's best courses. Whilst in the area it would be churlish not to play Torino which has 36 holes, the most challenging of which is the "Percorso Blu". A course of classic British character, originally designed by John Morrison, enjoying very pleasant landscaping. This is demanding enough for low handicap golfers but, at the same time, not too tough for high-handicappers. With direct flights to Turin this makes an ideal base for short break golfing holidays combining excellent shopping, gastronomy and, of course, Barolo!
