On the exclusive Costa Smeralda in the north east of the island, Pevero is one of the most beautiful courses in Europe, a Trent Jones creation blasted out of granite and impenetrable maquis. The coastal scenery is magnificent and the sea breezes that swirl around Pevero's rocky headland add to the complication of a most seductive course, where every shot issues an invitation and a challenge. One of the best holes of the back nine concludes with a memorable view over the bay of Cala di Volpe and its famous hotel, the most glamorous on the Costa Smeralda. Golf is one of its less well advertised attractions.

In the extreme south of the island, not far from Cagliari is Molas another superb course, set back slightly from the sea. October to May is the comfortable season for golf down here. With the recent opening of Is Arenas, an ambitious new project in a wilderness zone of the west coast near Oristano, Sardinia is becoming a candidate for the best in golfing holidays.
